Tim Williams Earns Two More Endorsements

Assembly District 5Tim Williams and his campaign volunteers have been working hard to earn Assembly District 5 support. Throughout August, Tim has again walked the district in an effort to meet as many people as possible before the November election. What has he discovered?

Almost 70 percent of residents in Assembly District 5 feel Las Vegas and Nevada are headed in the wrong direction. An additional 10 percent aren't sure whether the direction is right or wrong. This may represent one of the lowest levels of confidence in the history of the state.

"We clearly need to get Nevada out of the recession and back on track toward economic recovery," says Williams. "We need more than an incumbent who promises to keep residents 'informed.' It's time we took positive action in our state by promoting economic development and improving education."

Since the beginning of the campaign, Williams had focused on three pertinent issues: jobs, taxes, and education. Recently, his plan to help Nevada move forward has earned two important endorsements.

Citizens for Responsible Government has endorsed Tim Williams for his "willingness to support the citizens of Nevada in a responsible manner," which coincides with Williams' pledge to represent people first as a responsive elected official. He has pledged to be proactive in working with area residents to find solutions.

The second endorsement came from Keystone, which is an organization dedicated to government accountability and developing a thriving economy. Keystone endorsed Tim Williams' keen focus on job creation, commitment to improving education through action, and pledge against tax increases.

If you have any questions or if you live in Assembly District 5 and would like to speak with or meet with Tim Williams in person, please call him direct at 702.427.7807. Since the very beginning of this race, his campaign has continued to grow, thanks to the support of volunteers and dedicated Nevadans.

Tim Williams July Campaign Update

Thomas PaineDear neighbors,

It has been extremely busy since we won the primary. Some of you already know this because we’ve had a chance to speak on the phone or have met in person. I appreciate your continued and growing support.

Originally, I had planned to write a letter and post it on the Fourth of July. It’s almost expected for candidates and elected officials to do so. But then, after talking with my family and several close friends, it seemed to me that everybody might appreciate a break from politics so they could honor the brave men and women who secured our freedom and won our independence 234 years ago.

For the most part, that is what I did. My family picked up a new kitten on Sunday (Shadow) morning and caught a baseball game on television. I also had an opportunity to meet up with Dad, who had volunteered to help at Sharron Angle's campaign booth. And just before watching the fireworks and reflecting on the meaning of the Fourth of July, I felt inspired to work on a speech for the Nevada State Convention.

While I was writing that speech, an old quote came to mind. It was written by Thomas Paine.

"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must undergo the fatigue of supporting it." — Thomas Paine

Thomas Paine, who wrote Common Sense, inspired the argument that all men are created equal. The committee charged with writing the Declaration (Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston, and Roger Sherman) reasoned if all men are created equal and all governments are instituted by men, they must derive their power from those they govern. So it leads me to a question.

Do we empower the government today and in doing so are we served by it equally? Or do we feel like we are serving the government so it may empower those it deems unequal?

And if the latter is true, then who are those unequal people? In Assembly District 5, it certainly isn’t the family I spoke with who is facing foreclosure. It isn’t the construction worker who lost his job. In fact, it isn’t anyone I have met in our district. Even people who work for the government have been hard hit or fear for their jobs. Many were laid off.

In the weeks ahead, my team and I will be outlining some ideas from myself and various citizens who live in Assembly District 5 on how we can ensure government serves the people rather than asking the people to serve it. Specifically, we need to turn the economy around in Nevada. A strong economy is the only catalyst for a strong community.

Tim Williams FamilyAnd yet, under the watch of our current incumbent government, The Washington Post reports that they have ushered in the worst economy since the 1930s, sending unemployment as high as 14 percent. We are among the worst in the nation after two years under the current leadership.

With a $1.27 trillion deficit planned for the federal government, I don’t expect Nevada will see any help there. It is time our state focused on Nevada, with a single priority to stop waiting for federal funds and start investing in our local economy.

If you agree, then perhaps we can send our own Declaration of Independence to Carson City in November. We expect to be free of incumbents towing the party lines, and served by newly elected candidates who serve the people of our state.

If you have any questions or if you live in Assembly District 5 and would like to speak or meet with me in person, please call me direct at 702.427.7807. I would be honored by your support. We need volunteers and donors to win for Nevada.

Respectfully,
Tim Williams

Tim Williams Expresses His Gratitude

Dear neighbors,

As the final precinct votes were counted last night, my only thought was how very grateful I am.

Thank you. Thank you for your support, endorsements, prayers, and taking the time to talk candidly with me about the real issues. Thank you for your trust and faith in me. And thank you for turning out to vote in what became the closest primary race.

Every vote did count!

As much as I would like to take the day off and enjoy our victory, my team and I are already working hard on the general election. We only have 148 days to reach as many voters as possible in Nevada State Assembly District 5 and most of you know I am willing to knock on every door (some doors twice)!

I have faith that our message — your message — will resonate. As you told me from the beginning, this campaign is about jobs, taxpayer protection, and better education. I listened, adopted these as my primary issues, and have spoken with many of you about real solutions. Still, I don't anticipate the general election will be any easier. We need to work together.

The first step for a better future.

To win Assembly District 5 against what will likely be a well-funded incumbent, the first step is to reiterate what many of you read in my mailer before the June 8 election. I have nothing but respect for Tibi Ellis. She has always worked hard for the Republican party and I trust she will continue to do so.

I am also pleased to announce that the Las Vegas Republican Townhall Group has joined early supporters such as Nevada Concerned Citizens, Nevada Action Coalition, 2010 Conservative Leadership Conference organizers, and many individuals, neighbors, friends, and family members. Thank you.

In closing today, please know that I am grateful not only for you support and your vote, but also for the opportunity to meet with so many of my neighbors and learn what issues matter most to you. With your help — time commitment, fundraising, ideas — I pledge that I will not let you down in this race or as your next representative in Assembly District 5.

If you would like to help or have any questions about the issues, please call me direct at 702.427.7807. I will gratefully accept any and all support so we can begin to focus our state on issues that have been neglected for the last two years.

Respectfully,
Tim Williams
Candidate for Assembly District 5
